Like so many good things it started in a bar. An acquaintance called David Synan had passed away a few months earlier. A couple of our current committee were asked by another friend what it would take to put a commemorative race together.
Well, as is often the case and almost by accident, those three ended up as the fledgling committee. The concept quickly grew legs and the first and subsequent races have been run in memory of David.
From that first race in 2015 the event grew, year on year, until Covid struck in 2020 and we were forced to cancel the arrangements for that year. Similarly, in 2021, the risks posed by Covid were still too great for the race to be re-started.
Eventually in 2022 we were able to begin again. Unfortunately by this time the cost of road closures had become prohibitive. We wanted to plan for a race that could go ahead if there were restrictions on gatherings. We introduced the time trial concept which has become so popular with our entrants and it seems other events around the country. We have had enquiries about how it works from organisers as far afield as Manchester and Kent.
This years event will start from the Llantwit Major Football Club on Frampton Lane, Llantwit Major CF612SU, and again take in the sights of Llantwit Major, including the beach and the cliff top paths, on an exciting and challenging route that could almost have been created by the Llantwit Major Tourist Board!
